Ponderosa
Pine
C-Select
Ponderosa Pine
is one of the soft-textured pines, a group distinct from the southern
yellow pines. The wood is light in color, varying from creamy white to
straw. It has the characteristic pleasant odor, is slightly resinous and
comparatively free from pitch and resin pockets.
Lumber of C Select grade is recommended for all finishing uses where fine
appearance is essential. Because its appearance and usability ranks only
slightly less than B&Better Select it is frequently blended with that
grade and marketed as C&Better Select, one of the most sought after
products from the clear portion of the log. It is widely used for high
quality interior trim and cabinet work with natural stain of enamel finishes.

Ponderosa Pine
D-Select
Lumber of this
grade has many of the fine appearance features of C Select grade. Although
generally less restrictive
than C Select, D Select is suitable where the requirements for finishing
are less exacting. The grade is between the higher finishing grades and
the Board grades, inasmuch as many pieces have a finished appearance on
one side, the reverse side showing larger and more numerous characteristics.

No. 1 Common
Lumber of this
grade, while not usually carried in stock in large quantifies, may be
ordered when the ultimate in fine appearance of knotty material is required.
These grades include all sound, tight-knotted stock with the size and
character of the knot, the determining factor in the grade.

No. 2 Common
Lumber of this
grade is intended primarily for use in housing and light construction
where it is exposed, such as paneling, shelving, and other uses where
a knotty type of lumber with fine appearance is required. Since knots
can easily be sealed for painting, this is also an excellent grade for
siding, cornice soffits, fascia and other exterior uses.

Sugar
Pine
Sugar Pine is
the tallest of all the pines. It is distinguished by a creamy white wood
which darkens to a pale brown, sometimes tinged with pink, as it ages.
It works well with either hand or machine tools, making it an ideal product
for pattern making. Its fine, even-grained texture enables it to be readily
fashioned into smooth straight surfaces and shapes.
